Our story

Why we dig into soil

Soil is the foundation of almost all life on land — yet it's one of the most overlooked and misunderstood parts of our natural world. We're here to change that.

Our mission

Improving soil literacy for everyone

Soil Edu exists to improve soil literacy across all ages and backgrounds. We do this through engaging digital content, animation, books, comics, learning resources, outreach programmes, and accessible research communication.

We believe that when people understand soil — really understand it — they become passionate advocates for protecting it. And healthy soil means a healthier planet for all of us.

Core message: Discover the hidden world beneath our feet.
Tagline: Learning from the Ground Up.
🌍

Our Vision

Why soil literacy matters

The urgency beneath our feet

Soil is under extraordinary pressure. Intensive agriculture, deforestation, pollution, and urbanisation are degrading soils at an alarming rate. Yet most people know almost nothing about soil.

This matters because:

95% of our food is produced directly or indirectly from soil.
Soil stores 3× more carbon than all vegetation and the atmosphere combined.
Over a third of the world's soil is already degraded due to human activity.

By building soil literacy — especially in young people — we create advocates who will make better decisions about land use, food choices, and environmental policy throughout their lives.
